WORLDS BEST| HOTELS| Burj Al Arab Hotel

Built to 321 meters above the sea on its artificial island, designed in the shape of an Arabian dhow sail, the Burj Al Arab hotel looks like the worlds tallest ship, on its way out to sea. It's actually a five star hotel off the shores of Dubai, offering lavish accommodation and stunning scenery in even the most modest sections of the building. Each suite is built over two floors with full-wall windows with a view of the Arabian Gulf. For meals, you can choose to eat with a view at 200 meters with a contemporary European menu, or if your room gives you enough of the view, you can change the setting with the underwater seafood restaurant.

Worlds Best| HOTELS| Almonds and Corals Resort

The Almonds and Corals Resort offers a unique and authentically rustic experience to visitors to Costa Rica wanting to get that little bit closer to nature. The accommodations is based around a series of elevated platforms, all linked by wooden pathways under the thick canopy of the forests of the Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge.

A boardwalk leads you to a private beach, for snorkelling and sunbathing, and the resort's restaurant allows you to dine surrounded by dense greenery. The rooms fall midway between cabins and tents, each with their own hammock for soaking up the evening breeze. Just don't forget your mosquito net, chances are you'll need it.

The Worlds Best| HOTELS| Ritz London

Looking for the ideal anniversary treat? A memorable way to mark a special birthday?

Well you can’t do much better than afternoon tea at the Ritz; it’s a true English institution of the very best kind. Tea is served in the Piccadilly hotel’s spectacular Palm Court, all fresh flowers, fine linens and marble pillars. Choose from a wide range of teas and tisanes, including Russian Caravan, Lapsang Souchong and Lemon Verbene. These are accompanied by finely cut sandwiches (and, yes, they do cucumber), freshly baked scones with jam and clotted cream, and a range of sublimely delicate pastries. All served on traditional silver cake stands that you thought only existed in episodes of Miss Marple.

It’s not cheap; even in London you could get a decent three course meal at the same price - but it is the Ritz after all, and it’s more than worth it.
